Open the Thunderbird Preferences window by clicking Tools → Options (on Windows) or Thunderbird → Preferences (on macOS). Click the Advanced icon in the Preferences window, then click the Network & Disk Space tab. In the Connection group, click the Settings button. In the Connection Settings dialog window, choose between using the system proxy or manual proxy configuration.

If you intend to use your proxy on your entire LAN or have already configured your proxy in your operating system, select “Use system proxy settings”; otherwise, choose the manual configuration.

If you choose the manual configuration, enter the specifics for your proxy given by your provider. Click the OK button in each dialog box and restart Thunderbird for the changes to take effect.
